Representasi Hegemoni Patriarki dalam Serial Bridgerton Season 1

Abstract


Bridgerton adalah serial orisinal Netflix yang berlatar pada era Regency Inggris (1811-1820) dan menampilkan kehidupan sosial aristokrat yang penuh dengan aturan, simbol, dan norma budaya yang ketat. Di balik kisah pencarian jodoh yang menjadi fokus utama musim pertamanya, serial ini juga memuat representasi hegemoni, terutama dalam konteks relasi sosial berbasis gender. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana tanda dan simbol dalam Bridgerton Season 1 merepresentasikan hegemoni patriarki. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes, analisis dilakukan terhadap lima adegan kunci yang dipilih berdasarkan kekuatan representatif dan relevansinya terhadap struktur sosial patriarkal. Setiap adegan dianalisis melalui lima kode Barthes: hermeneutik, proairetik, semik, simbolik, dan kultural. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hegemoni patriarki dalam serial ini tidak ditampilkan melalui kekuasaan yang eksplisit atau koersif, melainkan hadir secara halus melalui estetika visual, konvensi budaya aristokrat, dan relasi interpersonal antar tokoh. Perempuan direpresentasikan sebagai objek visual dan komoditas sosial yang nilainya ditentukan oleh pandangan serta otoritas laki-laki. Melalui visual yang indah dan narasi yang emosional, Bridgerton secara tidak langsung melanggengkan mitos patriarki dalam bentuk yang telah dinormalisasi. Dengan demikian, serial ini menjadi contoh bagaimana media populer bekerja sebagai ruang representasi dan reproduksi ideologi dominan, termasuk hegemoni patriarki.
