Analysis of Mastery of Verb-Object Compound Word Expansion Form in the 'Advanced Conversation Course of Business Chinese'
Abstract
As China's economic and trade exchanges with Indonesia deepen, more and more people are beginning to learn Business Chinese. Therefore, Business Chinese textbooks have also attracted attention, one of which is the "Advanced Business Chinese Conversation Course." One crucial aspect of this textbook is the separable verbs. Separable verbs are one of the challenges faced by second language learners of Chinese. This study focuses on the separable verbs in the "Advanced Business Chinese Conversation Course." Ten separable verbs out of 38 in the textbook were selected for analysis the students’ mastery. All ten selected separable verbs are of the verb-object type. This research adopts a quantitative approach, primarily using literature review and testing methods to collect research data. A total of 25 test questions were designed concerning the expansion forms of separable verbs. Based on the statistical results of the test questions, it is known that students majoring in Business Chinese at Bunda Mulia University have a low mastery of the insertion of particles in separable verb structures but a high mastery of the insertion of classifiers; the duration of students' Chinese learning has an impact on their mastery of separable verbs.
