Potential Verb-Complement sentence is the unique sentence pattern in Chinese, and it’s also one of the sentence patterns with more errors for second language learners. On the one hand, there is no similar complement sentence in second language learners’ native language. On the other hand, the second language learners do not grasp its structural characteristics and pragmatic characteristics. This paper explains the Potential Complement step by step to help the second language learners to master it and to use it accurately.
