Abstract

The aim of this article is to demonstrate the relationship between language and culture from sociolinguistic perspective on the teaching of Chinese language. Not only is the context based on the language, but it also based on other factors which correlate with the society. The society, in fact has become a very crucial element in perceiving the meaning of a language. There are two categories which show the correlation between language and culture, namely (1) the subordinate relationship and (2) the coordinative relationship. The subordinate relationship shows that the culture is the main system and the language is the sub system, whereas the coordinative relationship focuses on the concept saying that the language and the culture are two systems in a human being.
