Marriage tradition is a ritual which is passed down from generation to generation.  Chinese marriage tradition was brought in along with arrival of Chinese migrant to Indonesia. According to history, many Chinese migrants had stopped by Indonesia, to be exact in Kalimantan Island, even before Dutch landed in Indonesia in 13th century. In the past, voyage was solely dependent on compass points, and Kalimantan Island was an Island that to be gone through. Until 19th century, many young miners came to explore Indonesia, and ended up getting married to local women and stayed in Kalimantan. Since then, Chinese marriage traditions were taught and passed down from generation to generation until now. Aim of the research is comparison of pre-marriage tradition between Chinese Tiojiu Chaosan and Indonesia Ketapang Tiojiu. Literature review and interview are the two methods utilized to find out the differences and similarities of pre-marriage tradition between same ethnicity from two different places. As the result, it was found that there were more differences in pre-marriage traditions than their similarities between these two groups of people. Due to current development, pre-marriage traditions have also developed and evolved during its preservation from generation to generation. Therefore, dowry tradition is the only pre-marriage tradition preserved.
